Jude's Marketing Tip #8 - Traffic

Posted by Judy Banks Sun June 29, 2008 12:12 pm
The first basic step to earning income from the internet is to get lots of traffic to your sales pages or websites, that is, you need to get visitors, real people, who will see your offer.
You can spend hours and hours building a beautiful website, you can have the number one most perfect product on the planet that everyone wants and needs, but if they don't see what you have to offer, they won't buy from you, they will buy from somebody else. Ouch!
But there remains a big challenge. We are all bombarded with the message "anyone can do it". That message is pervasive. Is it a lie? No, not exactly. It's just not telling the whole story. It perpetuates the myth that earning online is so easy a child could do it. We all know in our heart of hearts that that can't be true.
Let's face it, if you are new to earning from the internet, especially if you have never operated your own business, you cannot immediately compete with the very experienced heavy hitters. It's a big mistake to think that your "dream product" will do the selling for you. The internet is not magic. It does not spit out money like an ATM machine. Don't believe those who tell you that lie!
If you are on a limited budget, you cannot compete with those who have mega bucks to spend on advertising and promotions. Even if you have the best system in the world, it boils down to your willingness to read, study, learn, develop and apply your skills to use that system properly!
I'm not just taking about computer skills, or internet skills generally. I'm talking about the one skill that at the end of the day makes the difference: Marketing Skills. Yes, some people are naturally talented and good at it. But it can be learned!
And under the wide umbrella of Marketing Skills, I include the requirement to have effective communication skills and the ability and capacity to build solid relationships with your customers and business associates. Focus on the nuts and bolts of how to market your product or service and teach your people to do the same.
The road to success is not quick, easy, painless and risk-free. Don't believe anyone who tells you it is, or that all you need is the right motivation and self belief. If you are up to the challenge, if you use the right skills and techniques and start getting results, your motivation and belief will arise naturally from your results. Don't let anyone tell you that all you need is motivation. What you need is to take action towards your goal, one step at a time, whether you are motivated or not.
